Like Christmas/Yule and Easter, Halloween is one of the 4 cardinal points of the year celebrated since neolithic times and “borrowed” by Christianity who even tried to rename it. Hence “Halloween” is archaic English for “Holy evening”.

So it’s no more or less “evil” than Easter, Yule/Xmas and midsummer.

Halloween History

Historian Nicholas Rogers, exploring the origins of Halloween, notes that while “some folklorists have detected its origins in the Roman feast of Pomona, the goddess of fruits and seeds, or in the festival of the dead called Parentalia, [it is] more typically linked to the Celtic festival of Samhain or Samuin (pronounced sow-an or sow-in)”.[1] The name is derived from Old Irish and means roughly “summer’s end”.[1] A similar festival was held by the ancient Britons and is known as Calan Gaeaf (pronounced kalan-geyf).

The festival of Samhain celebrates the end of the “lighter half” of the year and beginning of the “darker half”, and is sometimes[2] regarded as the “Celtic New Year”.[3]

The celebration has some elements of a festival of the dead. The ancient Celts believed that the border between this world and the Otherworld became thin on Samhain, allowing spirits (both harmless and harmful) to pass through. The family’s ancestors were honoured and invited home whilst harmful spirits were warded off. It is believed that the need to ward off harmful spirits led to the wearing of costumes and masks. Their purpose was to disguise oneself as a harmful spirit and thus avoid harm. In Scotland the spirits were impersonated by young men dressed in white with masked, veiled or blackened faces.[4][5] Samhain was also a time to take stock of food supplies and slaughter livestock for winter stores. Bonfires played a large part in the festivities. All other fires were doused and each home lit their hearth from the bonfire. The bones of slaughtered livestock were cast into its flames.[6] Sometimes two bonfires would be built side-by-side, and people and their livestock would walk between them as a cleansing ritual.

Another common practise was divination, which often involved the use of food and drink.

Origin of name:
The word Halloween is first attested in the 16th century and represents a Scots variant of the fuller All-Hallows-Even, that is, the night before All Hallows Day. Although the phrase All Hallows is found in Old English (ealra hálȝena mæssedæȝ, the feast of all saints), All-Hallows-Even is itself not attested until 1556. Thus there is no evidence of an English term for this day before the Reformation.

I need a pair for my halloween costume. They need to be the kind with an elastic panel that goes all the way to the crotch, so I can show off my “bump”, and maybe be featured one of those gossip magazines in the checkout line.

The only men I can think of that may have them are seahorses and Humpty Dumpty. I suggest making your own with an elastic panel, and those tall stripey pants that the guy on stilts wears at carnivals. The vertical stripes will help draw attention to your bump.

and i’ve search for some tips/guide
for it and most of them said
“go to the Saw maze first”
and yeah i’m probably going to do that…
but ok if i’m going to rush down to the lower lot
down stairs
do i skip the scare-zones and then come up and go threw them
or do i walk threw them while going to the maze
because i’ve heard that line could get pretty LONG!

guess what?! I’m going the 29th too! hahaha i’m not really sure what you’re talking about stairs because Universal does not have any stairs unless it’s for a ride. As for scare zones, they are EVERYWHERE and every part of the park. (I went last year) so you will NOT miss the scare zones. I promise. You’ll be going through them to get around the park. PS: If you don’t like loud noises and people jumping out at you, you’re gonna get scared
